OVERVIEW

PAARL is opening a Call for Posters for its upcoming conference Unveiling/Rediscovering Filipiniana: An Update on the State of the Filipiniana Collections in the Philippines to be held on 15-16 October 2025 (optional cultural tour on 17 October) at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. The conference objectives are: 

– Review and assess the progress of the State of Filipiniana Collections goals established during the 2000 Eugenio Lopez Foundation anniversary.
– Investigate and showcase the current state and significance of Filipiniana collections across the Philippines.
– Identify and address common issues and challenges faced by Filipiniana collections in the 21st century.
– Develop and promote collaborative activities and initiatives to ensure the continued preservation of Filipiniana materials for future researchers.
– Strengthen relationships and establish linkages among libraries and research centers with Filipiniana collections to enhance the preservation of cultural heritage.
– Establish and promote best practices for the sustainable preservation and conservation of Filipiniana materials, ensuring their longevity for future generations.
– Create educational programs and public engagement initiatives to deepen understanding and appreciation of Filipiniana collections among diverse audiences.
– Improve the digitization and online accessibility of Filipiniana collections to broaden their reach to a global audience.


POSTER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

CATEGORY A (Institutions/Collections)
Institutions are invited to submit posters that spotlight their Filipiniana collections and initiative. When submitting your proposal please include the following:

Affiliation
Author/s and Presenter
Abstract (250 words; in PDF format; should cover the following):
Background/Provenance – How the collection came into existence or your possession
DescriptionDescribe the collection, what makes it unique, its historical, research, and/or cultural value, and other significant characteristics
Access requirementsHow can interested researchers use the collection
Challenges and issues of improving and maintaining Filipiniana Collections.
Future directions – outline of plans on the sustainability and improvement of the collection.


CATEGORY B (Filipiniana Research)
We also invite poster submissions that showcase original and ongoing work in Filipiniana research and heritage. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
– Cataloguing, indexing, or bibliographic work on Filipiniana collections
– Conservation & preservation of manuscripts, rare books, photographs, maps, ephemera, etc.
– Digitization, digital humanities, or multimedia projects involving Filipiniana materials
– Institutional, museum, or archival practices in acquiring, caring for, or curating Filipiniana
– Community engagement, public programming, or outreach that promotes awareness/use of Filipiniana materials
– Interdisciplinary/comparative studies involving Filipiniana and other cultural heritages

Poster must contain a visually compelling and clearly organized: objective/purpose, methodology, main findings or project status, implications/recommendations.

WHY PARTICIPATE?
– Share your work with peers in Filipiniana studies, archives, librarianship, museums, and cultural heritage sectors
– Receive feedback, spark collaboration, and increase visibility of your research/project
– Contribute to the advancement of knowledge, preservation, and access to Filipiniana materials across academic & cultural communities

Email the poster proposal to paarlbod@gmail.com with the subject line: [FILCON POSTER PROPOSAL]. The deadline of submission will be on 26 September 2025 (Friday), 5:00pm (GMT+8).

Accepted presentations will be notified of the results by 01 October 2025.


POSTER FORMAT/SPECIFICATIONS

– 2ft x 5ft (tarpaulin)
– Portrait orientation
– Mountable on X-banner stand


READABILITY

– Posters content should be legible at a distance of 1-2 meters away
– Use clear and accessible sans-serif fonts (e.g. Calibri, Helvetica, Verdana, etc.)
– Legible text should be at least 24pt for text and 48pt for titles
– Use white or light background to make it clear and easy to read for participants


DURING THE CONFERENCE

Accepted posters will be notified two weeks before the Conference date. They will also be informed of the location of their posters on day 1. 
Poster presenters are expected to:

– Print their own posters, bring it to the conference venue, and bring it back with them after the conference
– Come in early to hang/set up their posters
– Stand beside their posters during the poster session part of the conference where participants will be given time to visit and peruse

Accepted poster presenters are entitled to one (1) free registration to the 2-day conference and will receive a certificate of appreciation.
